Abstract

Self-care management in the elderly can be influenced by family knowledge and support. Lack of family support in the elderly with hypertension can result in difficulties in self-care themselves, which can worsen their health. Family support is very helpful in minimizing the risk of complications. Today, there are still many elderly with hypertension who are unable to do good self-care management. Many people have not routinely controlled blood pressure and take medication regularly. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and family support with self-care management in elderly people with hypertension in Jaddung Village, Pragaan District, Sumenep Regency. The research was quantitative research using an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study amounted to 110 respondents. The sampling technique used Simple Random Sampling using the Slovin formula for as many as 52 respondents. The statistical test was the Multiple Linear Regression Statistical Test with an α < 0.05. Most of the elderly families with hypertension in Jaddung Village, Pragaan District, Sumenep Regency with good knowledge, as many as 28 people (53.8%), and Most elderly families with hypertension in Jaddung Village, Pragaan District, Sumenep Regency with good family support as many as 28 people (53.8%). The results of the Statistical Test conducted using the Multiple Linear Regression Test obtained significant value results (sig.) 0.000 < α 0.05 so that H0 rejected H1 was accepted. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between Knowledge and Family Support with Self Care Management in Elderly People with Hypertension in Jaddung Village, Pragaan District, Sumenep Regency.
